In Matthew 16:13-15, Jesus asked “his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
That is a question each one of us has to answer for ourselves. And the answer we give determines everything about how we live and who we put in charge of our lives.
I wrote a poem the other day and wanted to share it with you. Sometimes the rhythm of a poem can more clearly express what the heart desires to say.
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” – Matthew 16:15-18b
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16 (NLT)
Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me. – Luke 9:23 (NIV)
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. – Matthew 5:8
In the Meanwhile…
Jesus, today give me a clean heart so that I may see you, fresh eyes so I can know you and a renewed mind so I can continue to be transformed to look more like you.
Show me where I have limited you and made you less than who you really are.
I declare that you are the savior, Son of the living God.
Take a few minutes to pause and praise Him for who He has been for YOU.
Wow, Geri, thank you for sharing you thought & your inspiring poem. This is certainly an incredible Resurrection Day weekend! I love how God is moving in so many amazing ways!
I’m excited to find out all the invisible things our God is doing. 🙂
Thank you for sharing that beautiful poem and message. Have a wonderful Easter Sunday!
You too!
These weighty words, written in rhyme,
Made me contemplate my concept of the Sublime.
Who and what is He to me,
Not as a philosophical question, but personally?
Okay, I was just having a little fun (poor poetry, I know), While the questions you raised are worthy of my contemplation, they require more than that. They demand an answer. “Who do you say that I am?” I am challenged to not just give verbal assent to that, but to live a life whose actions reflect that I truly believe Jesus to be the divine Son of God, whose power is limitless, not just for what He can do for me, but through me…and each of His children.
Thanks for your postings that encourage, teach and challenge us. I appreciate your sacrifice of time to do so.
I adore you! Your poem is perfect. Happy Easter my friend.
Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. That’s all I have to offer.
I agree with Shari. What a good journal topic for Easter: our personal declaration of who Jesus is , was, and will be to us. Taking the time to find the words that adequately say what our heart is saying slows and settles us. Deep peace and gratefulness result.
It makes us stop and think. Hope you had a great Easter!
Beautiful poem Jeri! You are an amazing women! Thank you for sharing. Have a blessed Easter.
HE has been, is, and always will be everything to me! What a blessed inspirational poem. A mini sermon that totally captures who He is! The world should have the opportunity to read that.
Thanks Rhonda. There is truly nothing as good as Him!
